维基百科作为全球人民共同拥有的自由的百科全书，其权威地位和客观立场相信不会有太多的人质疑。维基百科的足球条目也制作得非常丰富详细，对于那些重要的历史巨星的介绍中，往往在第一段，就有一句很明确的盖棺论定式的评语，标明了这个球星在整个足球发展历史上的坐标.【1】
维基百科对史上著名球员的评价，评价很有讲究，措词也是十分严谨，表现在以下几方面【2】：
1、被认可的广泛程度差异：比较一下，认可度最高的用widely，其次是generally和commonly，紧接着是regularly，然后是often，最后是不加修饰.
2、认可主体对被认可对象的主观性差异：用consider说明认可主体的主观性更强，而用regard则说明认可度更高，更有说服力，不用这些词则说明无可争议，已经不是认不认可的问题了.
3、认可主体差异：有的是被专家、球员和教练等业内人士认可，有的是被球迷和专家认可，有的没有指出，相比之下，专业程度更高的主体的认可更有价值.
4、认可的高度差异：有的用greatest，表明最伟大，有的用best，表示最佳，有的用finest，表示最好，有的用successful表示最成功，有的用admired和respected表示最受尊敬，有的用outstanding表示杰出，有的用celebrated表示著名，程度有差异，高度有差异.
5、高度和荣誉的专属性差异：基本上用one of 表明之一，即便是受到广泛认可的也不例外，当然也有个别没有争议的不用“之一”
6、荣誉和高度的时间空间跨度差异：有的是历史上（history或all time ），有的是一国历史上，有的是他所处时代（his generation）

注：3-5 其实评价基本是一致的（widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time），个人倾向于用20世纪最佳的排名作为重要依据，区分排名，当然如果你不喜欢3-5这样排，认为并列第3名也行。

4、贝肯鲍尔 Franz Beckenbauer 　 　
He is generally regarded as the greatest German footballer of all time and one of the greatest and most decorated footballers in the history of the game.
注： generally regarded  比 widely regarded 的广泛度要差些，不过贝皇的评价比下面的多些。

5、迪·斯蒂法诺 Alfredo Di Stéfano　　
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
注：算是标杆。

6、齐达内 Zinedine Zidane　
　He is widely considered as one of the greatest players in the history of football.
注：widely considered 比 widely regarded 的公认度要差些。

7、 罗纳尔多 Ronaldo  
He is considered by experts and fans as one of the greatest football players of all time.
注：considered by experts and fans 比 widely considered 的广泛性差很多。

8、普斯卡什 Ferenc Puskás　　
Top scorer of the 20th century, he was voted one of the greatest football players by World Soccer magazine.
注：最后一位有one of the greatest football players称号的球员，不过仅仅是by World Soccer magazine　

9、梅西 Lionel Messine　
Considered one of the best football players of his generation and frequently cited as the world's best contemporary player.
注：这基本是2012年之前的评语，这个的时代最佳，其实从上面的看时代最佳（甚至之一）就是历史最佳之一（50年代的迪·斯蒂法诺、60年代的贝利，70年代的克鲁伊夫、贝肯鲍尔、80年代的马拉多纳、90-00年代的齐达内、罗纳尔多，没有一个时代落下），当然梅西还刚上路，他目标应该是历史最佳。

10、普拉蒂尼 Michel Platini　
　He is also widely regarded as one of the best passers in football history as well as one of history's greatest free kick specialists and finishers.
注：不黑普干爹，20世纪最佳球员的大部分评选，他也就比上面6位差（除去齐达内、罗纳尔多、梅西）

以下排名其实没有太多意义，都差不多，要嘛是某个技术方面的历史最佳，要嘛是重要位置（前锋）的历史最佳之一、要嘛是时代的最佳之一：

11、加林查 Garrincha　　
FIFA considers him the best Brazilian player ever after Pelé; he is regarded as the best dribbler in football history.
12、盖得-穆勒 Gerd Müller　
　One of the most prolific goalscorers of all time.注：虽然他在各种评选中不被待见，但还是给他这个地位。
13、济科 Zico   
He is commonly considered one of the most skilled dribblers and finishers ever and possibly the world's best player of the early 80's.
14、尤西比奥 Eusébio　　
He is considered one of the best footballers of all-time by the IFFHS.
注：one of the best footballers of all-time 看着很唬人，其实这次by the IFFHS的评选中普斯卡什、普拉蒂尼、加林查都在他前面。
15、巴斯滕 Marco van Basten　　
He is regarded as one of the greatest forwards of all time.　

16-20  博比查尔顿 、罗纳迪尼奥有位置，罗马里奥、贝斯特不给位置说不过去，雅辛似乎也要留个位置。

C罗以后在前20应该也会有位置，会顶掉谁了。
